Awhile ago I rebuilt my TF 727 to stock specs. Over the past 1,500 miles, I can't seem to find the correct kickdown linkage position. Where should it be set? I'm using the lokar system... and I'm not sure how much throttle wiggle room there should be between idle and when the kickdown lever on the trans starts to get pulled. ( like how much I can open the throttle without moving the kickdown lever.

The problem is, I think because of not being able to figure this out, my trans seems to be acting weird.

When I first start up my car in the morning, It has to rev up to about 2,000 rpm before it'll start to roll backwards. But I think that's because of the factory 2k rpm stall/torque converter.

My concern is that when I go full throttle the engine revs up and down repeatedly. I think that either has to do with the kickdown or slipping clutch discs.

I need advice asap, this is my daily driver. But I do have a backup vehicle I could insure for a month.

On another note, could the engine revs going up and down at full throttle be because of a misfire or incorrect timing?

well your absolutely Right about the kick down, if its not set up correctly you could burn up the trans, the kick down cable should move as soon as the throttle moves, also i run a 4000 stall converter and my car moves as soon as its in gear, "any gear" R or D hope this helps

when you fire it up,put it in Neutral and let the car warm up for a minute.
dont rev it to the moon.
the front pump in trans doesnt fill until its either in gear or neutral,
which is why its taking so long for your gear to hit esp reverse.

try this and then let us know how the trans acted.

as noted if the kickdowns not set youll be rebuilding the trans again.

Here are the directions for Lokar kick down cable. If it isn't burned up, go back to step 8 on first page of PDFs file. If you can get someone to hold throttle wide open as you adjust cable, you should be good. I've installed a couple of these and they have gone on perfect(so far).. I'd try to re adjust and see what trans does. Hope it helps. Good luck.

Bottom line on the kickdown...is to have it adjusted where, when at WOT, the kickdown/throttle pressure lever (at the trans) should be 'almost' fully back, or full in.
I say 'almost', since you don't want a hard, possibly binding adjustment. So, fully in, though with slight play, to assure it's not in a bind.

Well you guys sure saved my *** on that one. I owe all of you. Luckily my transmission isn't burnt up. I have adjusted the kick down according to your advice and now the charger, runs, drives, and shifts great! Thank you!!!

Sweet Good Job Dude !
