I currently have a 2008 F250 FX4 6.4 Diesel truck with the super cab and 8ft bed. It's been a great truck and only had one warranty issues which was fixed a few weeks ago without any hassles. I do have 1 more year on the extended warranty but a few years left on payments. The truck has low miles 26,500 and is nearly brand new. I have no scratches or body damage as I do not offroad the truck. It's value is around 33k still which is hardly depreciated from when I got the truck in January 2010.
The downside of the truck is diesel prices, oil changes and fuel filters. When I bought the truck it was under 3 bucks for diesel in Texas so it was no big deal. Now it is over 4. I have only towed with it twice which is the intended use, and hauled a 1 ton load once. The 8ft bed is nice, but I hardly ever use the truck for its intended purpose. I've had people in the back seat twice in two and a half years. It's an expensive daily driver!
I would also look to sell my 2011 Texas Bragg 30' gooseneck and get a smaller enclosed trailer as I am downsizing my fleet of cars due to frequent traveling. When I move, there is no guarantee I will have a place big enough for the trailer and all of my vehicles.
I also have had the itch for a hot rod truck since I once had a 2002 SVT Lightning and I sold my 03 Cobra in December. Nobody except Ram makes a truck that looks like a hot rod in my opinion. Ford forces you to get a crew cab or super cab with a long bed and I am not a fan of Chevy's "slab side" design. The 6.2 and Ecoboost engines are nice and I drove an eco boost and I think the 6.2 might be faster with 30 more HP. Then again, it is a crew cab which I am not looking for. My 1SG got a new 2012 CC Hemi Ram 1500 a few months ago and it is really nice inside and out. Way nicer than my 2005 Jeep GC I had a few years ago.
I was thinking of a 2012 R/T with the tow package and using USAA's buying service which can knock anywhere from 5-7k off of the MSRP price. Here is what I was thinking of. It saves me about 150 bucks a month, is cheaper to maintain, and is more fun to drive. It seems like a good deal to me.
