does anyone know how to bypass the ignition switch to start an engine with an electronic ignition? I just put the engine in my car and don’t have the dash in and wanted to fire the engine. So I guess the easy way to ask this... does anyone know how to Hotwire a car in the engine bay... please and thank you...

All that’s needed is a hot to the coil and a means to roll the starter. Is it the car in your avatar?

Yes it is, a 71. I tried that and I’m getting power to the coil, but nothing out of it. I’ve replace the coil and still nothing. I wasn’t sure if I have to power the electric ignition.

Oh yea electronic. yea you will need power to that
I had points on the brain.

This should get you on the right track

Feed the blue wire at ballast straight from batt and jump the starter relay between big stud and SOL terminal ( can be done with a wrench ) to crank the engine and done.

This works for either points or elect ignition.

You’ll get some sparks jumping out the starter relay, don’t get scared is normal

That diagram is not exact to the earliers 70s setups but more accurated to laters where the ballast bypass was made from starter relay, but earliers are made from ign switch.

I had my 72 hot wires for a long time while I was sourcing a new harness. I had an msd box and one wire alt since the whole harness was fried.
To get the starter to turn you need to jump the starter relay with a momentary switch. Easier and safer than using a screwdriver in my opinion. Essentially a push button switch.
I also had a main power switch for the ignition on/off.
Good luck
