Hey all, hopefully you guys can help me out-
Got a '71 Coronet, converting it to a floor shift. Got the steering column collars from an 80s fullsize Ram, everything's going together great. Put my old ignition switch in, slid the new (72+) key cylinder in, but the hole on the cylinder doesn't line up with the switch pin. The pin is rotated too far forward (toward the dash). If I put the key in and turn so the hole lines up with the pin, the cylinder goes in all the way. If I then try to turn the key back to "off", it won't let me, it only turns back to "on" or so... What'd I do wrong?

i dont think you are doing anything wrong, sounds like you are mixing years of parts and they are clocked differnt.did you compare the old and new cylinder to see if the are the same?

Hey, thank you for responding- I'll try and take a look at it this week. Did the ignition switches change when they went to the round pin-type key cylinder?

Okay. Sorry it's taken so long, my car has been buried in the snow..
Both ignition switches were clocked the same- it was my lock lever assembly that was preventing the key cylinder from rotating back to "off". So, just for fun, I took the lock lever assembly out, put the ignition switch and key cylinder back in, and now it turns just fine!
Was the lever lock assembly just there to prevent the car from shifting out of park without the key? Is it necessary in a floor shift car?
Thanks again!
