If your description is accurate, I'd go with the ignition switch. Sounds to me that the little "prong" on the end of the switch is broken or something because the lock would move this, making contacts in the switch. Hope this helps
 
In my opinion, the statement "they will work when I jiggle the key" says it all. You have a problem with your ignition switch. I'm not 100% sure how that could hang up & keep the key from coming out... unless it's really, really bad & physically broken somehow. To be safe, I'd put a new ignition lock in there too. You have to take the lock out anyway to change the ignition switch in a column-lock car like you have.
