Hey everyone,

Going through my 8 3/4 rear with a 742 center section and want to replace my inner axle seals. What is the best tool to use to remove these without a lot of aggravation?

Thanks!

I use a long piece of steel 3/4" water pipe and stick it in one side and knock the opposite out, then repeat for the side you were on.

great idea. wasnt even thinking from that angle. that is what i will do! thanks Rusty.

Just remember, when you reinstall the axles, wrap a piece of cardboard around the shaft and slide it part way into the seal. Hold onto the cardboard and slide the axle in. This will keep the splines from tearing up your new seal.

Or, you can take an axle and use it to lever out the seal if you don't have the long piece of water pipe. I use a medium size heel bar...

I used a rolling edge pry bar and Vise Grips and really clamped hard on to the Bar and hooked it into the seal and hammered the seal a little as i went around the seal and worked great for me! $(KGrHqF,!pME--j2VWqnBP0QITEWh!~~60_35.GIF
