Can anyone tell me what is the proper item called to cover these openings? It is a 68 B-body GTX. Are they rubber or metal and does anyone know where to get them? Do they go on the engine side or the wheel side?
On my car, they are a material similar to roofing shingles. They are held in with spring clips on the wheel side to keep moisture out of the engine compartment. I am going to replace mine with rubber from splash guards.
I believe the front ones you have pictured are metal, The rear one behind the shock tower are rubber/vinyl. I could be wrong on these but I can check tonight. Not sure where to get them.
I looked up splash shields and the pictures I see do not match the opening shape. The pictures are both the front. One is taken over the wheel, as it located under the battery and the other is from the engine side. Both front inner wheel wells.
Just went and checked mine ('69 RR). Front is metal and attached from the wheel well side with sheet metal screws. Rear one is rubber (I suspect) and as mentioned, is held in place with spring clips from the engine bay side.
The front metal "metal" and rear "masticated rubber" allows the service person the ability to access the upper cam bolts that attaches the upper control arm to the shock tower. As noted above the metal shields were installed from the wheel side. I would check with the AMD site as that is where we purchase them.
