I'm trying to remove the instrument panel from my '70 Super Bee (rallye dash) to replace the temp gauge. Took out the 6 screws on the faceplate and nothing loosened up, nothing budged. How do I get to the temp gauge?

do you have all the wiring disconnected? theres not much slack if any back there. headlight, amp gauge, wiper switch and
pin connector for instruments needs to be disconnected along with the speedo cable. be sure to unhook your battery. the cluster will have to come out to replace the gauge. may have to drop down the steering column also. been awhile since i have removed one.

No, didn't think of unhooking all the wiring first; thought there would be enough slack to pull the cluster out first. Not sure how to get at the wiring...there's no room to get my hand up in there to disconnect them.

Are there clips or screws behind the wood grain panel that holds the cluster in so that I need to remove the panel to get to them? Not sure how the wood grain panels are attached. Do you know?

You also need to remove the plastic dash bezels on the lower part of the dash on either side of the steering column (if like my 70 Road Runner, which I think it is), as they will impede the cluster from coming out. These are a royal PITA to get out, as you need to get at the Philips head screws from behind he dash. I found that using various length screw drivers and a mirror it was doable, but still a pain.

While some may say that lowering the steering column isn't absolutely necessary, it takes minutes to do and makes a HUGE difference. Once you have done this and disconnected the speedo, you should be able to pull it out slightly and angle it to begin disconnecting wiring. Be absolutely sure you know where everything goes!

Good Luck,

Hawk

Don,
Once you have the cluster removed there are screws that attach the bezel to the cluster housing so you will need the unit out before you can remove the bezel

Looks like the guys above have you covered. Just make sure you do disconnect the battery first :icon_thumright:
