I have gotten to the point on my check list for my 64 Fury where after finishing the install of the 383 which included updating to a later electronic voltage regulator, alternator and mini starter, modifying the radiator mounting and installing the fan frontwards with a 1” spacer. I installed new roof rail and quarter window weather stripping and a few other small items and I am now ready to replace the light bulbs and sockets in my instrument panel and wanted to ask where the bulbs are located for the transmission push buttons and heater/defroster controls. Will drop the steering column in the morning and pull the panel out far enough to get to everything.
Then comes the pan gasket for the transmission and then the sure grip and then taking the car for new head pipes and then…..updating the braking system to a dual MC.

Just another of many who have spend a lot of time trying to get to the point of enjoying their car. As I fix one problem I find another which is fine, sooner or later the problems will be repaired.

The instrument lighting on the far right and left light up the shift buttons and heater buttons.

I think I saw them today, it’s a slot that allows the light from the gauges to shine on the shafts of the push buttons.

Yes. That is all that was used for button lighting.

Serviced the 727 transmission today, drained fluid, new correct 64 style filter filter, new pan gasket and drain plug gasket and refilled. Removed both front drums, cleaned and repacked wheel bearings, freed up adjusters, reassembled both front brakes and adjusted but may need readjusted once it’s on the road. Mounted both front wheels and took the car off the jack stands….busy day

How long have you had your 64 Fury? Sounds like it has not been on the road for awhile. You have done a lot of recent work on it.

I got it late last summer and made a list up over the winter but it seemed to grow. Like you said everything has been done recently, some big things but mostly just normal maintenance. Some things were done in the early season like the wiper transmission that was frozen, it needed replaced all together.
I have to give the PO credit for taking care of the car, all new wheel cylinders and brakes, he had the entire drive shaft redone and had it changed from the trunnions style to the stub shaft style and completely rebuilt the differential. All new dual exhaust system with Flowmasters. The valve seals and guides were bad and while it would have been less work to just get the heads rebuilt the gains from installing the low mile 383 with fresh heads was cheaper in the long run. I gave up being able to use it for a while but I’m hoping next summer I can make up for it.

This is the 64 Fury wagon I am working on. Sat in qy for 30 or more years. We have about 1000 miles so for this summer. I just sold the 64 HT in the picture

Taking on these old girls is an act of love. You take a little of yourself each day and use it to make them whole again so they live on. In the end it’s you that passes away and they pass on to another caregiver, one which like you gives a little of themselves each day so they can continue to live on.
