intake manifold for 69 RR

Does anyone know of a "modern" intake manifold (Edelbrock etc) that will fit a 383 4bbl and still allow the hood to close with a stock 69 air cleaner?
 
had an old performer on a 68 charger that worked fine with the stock magnum sealed aircleaner.never measured anything though.
 
i have no problem with the intake and carb in the pics

Big question is will it work with an air grabber hood?

Not to highjack the thread, but I'd be interested in knowing this too.
I'll be building a 383 for my 69 RR, a factory N96 car. It currently has a 440 in it, too tall to put the seal on the hood duct.

440 had a different air cleaner base with the air grabber.
 
Mine is a 383 with N96 all stock and original right now but I'm curious about an aluminum intake and different carb as well, wondering if it will throw off the alignment to my air grabber air cleaner gasket/seal.
 
The stock intake that came on the 383 Road Runners etc was a decent piece. Took me a long time to figure it out....but it's heavy.

Yes, the 440 base is shorter. When a previous owner swapped in the 440 they just pulled the seal off the duct for the needed clearance. I have a complete 69 date coded 383 that I plan to put in the car at some point, so I'm not too concerned about buying a $350 air cleaner for the 440.


If I'm reading this correctly it sounds like I should be ok with buying the Edelbrock Performer Aluminum intake?

If you are referring to the pic above then no, it is different. The one that appears to be an exact mach to a factory iron intake is the MoPar M1 dual plane. The pic above looks more like the old DP4B or CH4B design from the 60's.

I recall seeing the performer having a different shape than the one pictured above. Perhaps the one above is a new version?
 
solution to my Problem

Thanks to everyone who responded to my original post...what I ultimately discovered is that a stock air cleaner element is about 3 and 1/4 inch tall. I had a Performer RPM which prevented the hood to close. I found an element that had the proper diameter but only 2 inches tall. That inch and a quarter was enough to close the lid comfortably.

We're still not sure whether our hood will close ok with our 440, Edelbrock Performer ('87 vintage), Holley 750 vac sec & stock air cleaner :icon_scratch:

If it doesnt, the plan is to modify the base plate that came with the air cleaner so that it sits a bit lower, but only as low as the ign coil allows.
Need to finish the interior first tho so the roof is clear and we can get to the hood for the first time in a couple of years :rolleyes:
