Guys I have been having a intermittent no start problem off and on since I got the car. At times hot or cold the car just roles over, then if it does start it seems to start as I left off the key? I have replaced a lot of the ign parts, coil, cap, rotor, has patronics ign, ballast resister. About the only thing left is the ignition switch or wiring. I have also seen a bad starter cause this with a large draw but it's so intermittent I don't think it's the starter.

Check the bulkhead connection. You can remove a wire from your starter relay. Have someone turn the key to start and put a meter on the ballast resistor. You likely have no power in the start position of the ignition switch.

My Guess would have been the ballast resistor, But you said you changed it. Go with Dons advice as stated above.

So if I have no power Don it will be the ignition switch or the wiring correct? Will it have power in just the run position?

Probably the connection at the firewall. If you unplug one of the wires on the starter relay it won't run the starter so it's easier to test at the ballast resistor. You can communicate with your helper it won't start or run down the battery.

I'm guessing you will find no voltage in the start position but 12volts in the run position. I've seen it and it was a terminal on the bulkhead was pushed back inside not corroded.

I had the same problem due to a bad ignition switch. Had an original switch that was going bad and replaced with a new one from Rock auto that lasted less than a month. I noticed that if I turned the key very hard to the right in start mode it would start but if I rotated it normally it would be hit or miss. Analyzing the original and new switch I could see where the two body halves were trying to separate because off the return to run spring pressure. The original switch lasted 40 plus years the new one less than a month and if you compare the two you'll notice a difference.

I replaced the ignition switch and it appears it was the issue. Thanks for the tips guys.

I went through this years ago with a 73 Chally. Crank all you want but when returning the key to the on position, it would fire once. Back then I had found a diagnosis procedure for the ignition system. Don't know what happend to it anymore.

Glad you got it
