Last week a young bear showed up at Colorado's Renaissance Festival. This week an orphaned bear cub was found up in a tree at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. How he found the zoo is anyone's guess. The first bear got relocated. The cub will be raised until he's old enough to be released.
Orphaned bear made his home at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Our zoo is literally on the side of a mountain just above NORAD's Cheyenne Mountain defense underground city. The zoo is a steep hike even for those used to our elevation. I don't know how out-of-towners could do it.
What sets this zoo apart is its remarkable elevation of 6,714 feet (2,046 m) above sea level, making it the highest zoo in the United States.
