In the garage. Under the hood. Again.
I've got a 904 trans that came with the 318 Poly I have, and would like to rebuild it to sell. Before I decide to invest in that,I'd like to know if they're the same as the ones behind the later LA small-blocks,from an internal component standpoint. No sense doing it if parts aren't available. As always, thanks, guys!

What year is the trans? If it was a pushbutton trans, the certainly it's way different.

The 318 poly from my 66 Belvedere had a 727 behind it and it was the original trans....

It it's a 64, then it is a cable shifted transmission and it IS different on the inside. If it's not cable shifted, it ain't a 64.

'62-'66 poly 318's had 727's stock. Pre '66 were cable operated. Pre '65 were ball and trunnion.

Cranky;thanks. I was under the impression that it was similar to,and referred to as a 904. Shows what I know,eh? Anyone rebuild one of these, and what was parts availability like?

I thought 65's were linkage controlled?

As far as I know, a good selection of parts are still available. I know they are for the 727. You can tell the 727 from the 904 from the offset on the right side of the pan....904 pans are more square looking.
