Is this cut Dana 60 worth the cost?

Hello all, newbie here looking for advice. I have a chance to buy a Dana 60 housing with a flange cut for $150. What do you all think? Is it worth the repair and four hour round trip ride to pick up??

If I have to weld on a flange, I don’t think my 110 Lincoln can swing it. Would have to outsource. Still worth it??

Saw a bare b body with axle flanges and spring perches go for $750 on ebay.
I sold a basket case (only a couple minor pieces missing) dana 60 for that.

You gotta get new ends for it anyway along with perches. That’s gonna cost 120-140 bucks. But the bigger question is, what is it’s length and will it be wide enough for your car? If you plan on mini tubbing and spring relocation, and it’s wide enough, get it.

Seller says it’s a 67-70 b body rear.
I thought it’d be a nice upgrade for my ‘65 Satellite. Plan to replace my original 273 for a 440. No mini tubbing or relocation planned.

That is a truck Dana not a 67-70 B, Mopar ends are about $100/pair and the perches are cheap. Under $20. Find a chassis shop that can weld er’ up, maybe another $250??? Keep in mind, trunk Dana’s do not have a pinion snubber. This one does not have a snubber.

Get the dimensions from him, by the pictures it looks like it’s been cut for a mini tub job

You can the seller I said he’s full of ****! That is a truck Dana60, nothing wrong with them, but as noted, no pinion snubber mounts and the ends are incorrect. Perches are on top of that housing, Mopars are on the bottom.

I personally don't think its worth $150 and a 4 hour round trip by the time you factor in gas. Truck Dana's are cheap enough from wrecking yards and will come with a posi and gear set. You'll probably still want to modify it. but you'll have saved yourself some time and fuel getting one locally. But do your homework, you want the "right" truck Dana.

As others have said that is a truck Dana. I can pick those up for about 150 complete around here. If you are going to go with a truck Dana find one that's complete so at least you can use the gears and maybe even a suregrip.

So, if one were to this, does one cut the end tubes from a 8 3/4 and weld them on? I have looked at truck Dana 60's and wondered about cutting one to fit and buying axles. I was a pipefitter and even if I didn't have the bevel cutter, clamps, and such, I wouldn't be afraid of narrowing a diff. Started the research to see if I could find axles with the correct splines and 5x4.5 flanges. It appeared they are available, but I have so much to do before I can even think about replacing my 8 3/4 posi that still works, I moved on. I'm still curious.

Looks like that axle housing is cut too short to do anything with.

You need this tool to keep everything in line. I did a truck Diff because I’m doing a 4 link so I don’t care about the pinion snubber. I stumbled on this guy by accident who does DANA 60’S for mopars up here in Alberta Canada. The truck Diff to me isn’t that much cheaper. I bought all new stuff for mine from DR.Diff. That guy is a good guy! Call him if you need help. He also sells the parts to a Dana very reasonable. I was 100% Satisfied with him.

You can find complete Danas around the area you live for 100-150 if you are patient. Some will even have a sure grip in them!

If you don't mind getting dirty... pick a parts

The absence of pinion snubber bosses tells me it's a brand-X truck rear end and might have orphan axle splines...something to consider besides the housing ends.
