IS THIS OEM?

Since I don't know what factory starters look like for Mopar. Is this OEM style or mini? Picture taken on my back underneath

Looks like an aftermarket mini starter to me

Yep, Mini starter. Late model. It is a permanent magnet motor starter. It takes less current to spin and will turn the engine over faster than the OEM starter. Plus, it is smaller, easier to replace and lighter.

Looks like it could be a MoPar mini starter. The aftermarket also makes starters that look the same. Those came stock on things like a Dakota or Ram.
Excellent starters. Last forever.

Thanks for the quick replies. I was under there fixing a trans leak and thought the starter looked "better" then typical OEM units so I thought I might as well ask.
I did notice when I got the car that it didn't have that distinctive Mopar "whine"when cranking

I kind of would have liked to have that starter whine, I think.

Much as I would like to save the weight with a mini starter, the Mopar Performance unit I bought (for a very good price, fortunately) will NOT fit with the ancient hooker (headers, wise guys) I use. Stuck with the hundred pound stocker, and the Mopar whine. I'm okay with it......

I prefer the old school whine myself, currently have the one I cooked on the '64 at the rebuilder down the road so I can get that mini back off...

Surprisingly enough, my mini sounds the same as the old chunky one...even makes the 'spin-down' sound once the car is started. Guess I got the best of both worlds.

The originals were Nippondenso I believe.

Not saying the Remy was OEM just that a Remy for a 1993 Dakota is identical to mine. Other brands for same truck look different

When I still had the stock large starter on my '64 Polara, it took a lot of cranking to start up. After I changed it to a mini starter, it started up like it was fuel injected. It was like the large starter was drawing so much juice, there was not much left for the ignition system.

Yer half right. The late model starter also spins much faster.

& my last 2 68 RRs BB/B-engines, the current one is since 2005
