I believe the main differences are: compression, camshaft specs, 4-brl induction, valve springs, exhaust manifolds, etc. I cannot remember if there was a difference in rods.
Nope. The only difference in a "regular" block and an "HP" block was the "HP" stamped on it. Exact same block. Heads are the same. There is NO difference in a 383 2v head, and a 440 Six Pack head casting.
Like Ben said, cam, compression, valve springs, intake, carb, more aggressive spark advance, exhaust manifolds. All bolt on stuff.
Like they said, plus to add EVERY big block MoPar built from 68-70 (including 67 440) is as good as it gets. Older or later units are also just as good with the difference being head castings and cast cranks found in later engines. Even the cast crank engines are good for 400+ HP or more. This is why I think MoPars are some of the most economical high HP engines to build. Bolt on parts and burn rubber!
