Is this tachometer servicable?

I bought this tach on eBay to put in the console of my 64 Sport Fury. I knew it looked a little rough on the outside, but the face with the lettering was very good.

Even if I needed it to be repaired, I got this because it is original. However this baby is sealed up tight -- no user serviceable parts. The outer metal rim is like crimped on over the case which is slightly flared. Has anybody taken one of these apart? I was thinking about cutting the case around the circumference, but even then I couldn't get to the glass. The console already has a clear lens so I may not even need the glass on the tach.

While I've got your attention. Do you know where the two studs are connected? Does the case act as a ground?

I'm not sure if serviceable or not! I'm sure someone will be able to help out with info. Good luck

This is a transistorized tach and requires the tach sending unit to function. It can NOT be used or hooked up without that sending unit.

Those factory tach 's in that era were ran by a tach sender box which was mounted under the console, it won't work with out it.

If you want,Contact Shannon at Redline Gauge Works. He may be able to restore it with all new internals. He did this for a 64 Fury,in dash replacing the clock.Looks factory.

??? The math I was taught says, 20 * 100 RPM = 2,000 RPM...40 * 100 = 4,000 RPM. I don't see the misprint. :icon_scratch:

look at the first picture..it says "X00"....not "X100" at the bottom center of tach, and yes, you need the round gold tach sender pod

You would think that the "60" would be flipped too...

I don't remember, but it seems like someone out there was doing an updated "internal parts" on these, eliminating the sending unit.

Dug around through some old pics from a '64 Dodge I had,

Thank you guys for all your comments. Remember that postage stamps that are printed with flaws are worth more.

I knew some tachs needed a sending unit, but I wasn't sure about this one. I'm convinced I need to send it to a pro to clean it up and provide the proper electronics.

I still like the original look.
