Just bought this 65 Coronet, was a NSS race car for years. ( The stacks are Garlits dummies)
I bought it from a dealer who really did not know too much about it, now I am trying to figure everything out. I do not plan to race it but want to make it more streetable.
Currently has a built 440, runs on pump gas, Holley double pumper 750 or 800, MSD 7 AL-2 ignition, Pro Power HVC coil, Pro biller distributor.
Strange thing on this car is the reverse gear is not to be used as it will go 25 mph, instead, I have to put it in neutral and push the red button on the shifter console (transbrake) then it just idles backwards nice and slow. This is wired up to the 2 step box.
Can I disconnect the 2 step from the 7 AL box to bypass the need to use the red button for reverse?
Does the fact that it is wired that way make it go so fast in reverse?
The car also has a 2 speed Holley fuel pump, I have never seen one of these.
Also, the car will not idle at first, not until it is started several times and warmed up, does this have anything to do with ignition or is it carb related?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
