Thanks for sharing Mike, very cool
I do love them old photos, we need more
especially "of the hay day of drag racing"
when it was about the working man & one man shops/race-teams
not only the big factory &/or corporate sponsors, like today is now...

Albeit I like to see them cars & old photos too... :poke:
I love the nostalgia...

Motor Was A 426 Max wedge, Crane Roller cam, Max Wedge Heads of course, Vertex Magneto, Hilborn Fuel Injection ran anywhere between 40% Nitro to 80% Nitro depending on the amount of money we were earning for the match race that weekend. Torqueflite with 2200 flash converter, 8 3/4 POSI rear end with 4.56 gearing. CAE tube front axle with 1940 Ford spindles. Direct mount front wheels (no frt brakes). Rear altered 15", front wheels 10" forward, engine set back 26". I did all the work on the back room of my speed shop when I was 25-26 years old. Body work, fab work and motor building.
Car weighed about 2500 dry.

Mike what happened to the car?
You should build a tribute car.
that thing was Bad *** !!!!

Very cool. Did you build it into a funny? What did you start with...anything special? Who owned it before you? Just curious of the history. Does it still exist?

I doubt if it still exists. Sold it to a guy from Burlington Vermont about 1969.
Well...I started the build with my 1963 ALUMINUM FRONT END MAX WEDGE that I bought new in 1963. The reason they are all so valuable now is that all of us idiots cut them up back then, not knowing the value they would have 50-60 years later.

I sold the Aluminum Front End to Arlen Vanke and then I bought 1965 Plymouth Fiberglass parts for the 1963. They all just bolted right on. Fiberglass Doors, Deck Lid, Hood with Hemi Style Scoop, Front Fenders and Front Bumper. I bought a 1965 Plymouth new Grille from the local Plymouth Dealer. I made a Plexiglass front windshield for it out of a big rectangular square of clear plexiglass. Did the wheelbase alterations, engine setback, aluminum interior etc. myself.

Mike, you stated you used a 2200 stall converter. Was that converter hand built or were they available in 1967. I don't remember anymore when "catalog" converters were on the market.

Here's a few more pics

Very cool Mike. Love the history. Did you run the Funny Car with a wedge or Hemi? I'm guessing the funny came to be around late '65-66? What was the best time you ran in the altered condition? Did you progress from carbs, to injection, to supercharger? It looks light. Were you able to run in the 2600 pound class? When and why did you get rid of it? Sorry for all the questions, but this stuff owns me. LOL.
