I bought this k frame and was told it was off a 69 or 70 b body but it has some brackets behind the motor mounts that are not on any other k frame of that era I have seen, just looking for any insight anyone has. 2nd and 3rd photos show the brackets I'm talking about.

Flip is upside down. But it looks like a 74 73? E-body K-member. Those tabs are a crash safety deal. I think to catch the motor from pushing back after motor mounts are ripped about in collision.

It will work in a 66-70 B-body. The steering gear angle is slightly different than the 71-72 B and all E-body.

Here are pics of the underside and of some numbers (is that the manufacture date?)

That is absolutely a 1970 and later unit. I didn't know about the unique E body brackets. Thanks, Steve.

Those are safety crash brackets for 74 and 73?.

K member ID question

74 E-bodies have some other weird stuff to the chassis. Like plates over the 1/4 window inside structure.

And in 73, the B-bodies and A-bodies went to Spool motor mounts. And B-bodies changed to Iso-K-members with rubber between the K-member and frame. Think about it, if a car is in a heavy front collision that pulls the rubber spool mount apart the cradle it sits in prohibits the motor from moving back into the passenger compartment.

So that leaves it being a late E-body K-member

Now, why didn't they convert the E-body K-member to spool mount? Because poor sales didn't justify the major change. They killed the 1974 E-bodies mid year.
