Is it really necessary to change the k member when going from /6 to big block? Ive taken pics of a car that was at my buddies shop and its hard to see but they have cut a small notch out of /6 xmember and from what I can tell modified or fab a new mount. This is the only pic I have but thats a big block and /6 k member. thoughts? Anyone done this?

You can use the Schumacher conversion mounts for 63-5 K-frame. Don't think they make them for the 62 K-frame.
I have a 62 V8 K-frame along with the 63-5 ones too.

V-8 k-frames are readily available. (BB and SB are the same) and makes the whole process and location much easier. If the stock look isn't an issue a front engine plate is always an option.

easier and safer to just change it out to a V-8 k-frame. I`ve changed out a few nasty hack jobs in the past and one this past winter in our 64-dodge. most people don`t have the knowledge or the equipment to do this correctly. my opinion is you would need to be a millwright/ fabricator and build a heavy fixture to get them correct or acceptable. pretty easy to buy the correct frame for a hundred or so. good luck, it`s good work.
