What would be the easiest way to swap out a k-member? my 65 Belvy has a 69 in it and since i'm converting to 4-spd, i'm going to put a 65 back in it. do you knock the lower ball joint loose,or unbolt it from the spindle or just remove the pivot pin from the lower control arm? i removed the 65 k from a donor, but i don't want to beat on my car like i did that one to get it out. any input would be greatly appreciated, John

k~Member swap

Pics of my 67 charger when i did the swap, i believe i just disconnected the upper control arm, pulled the torsion bars, drive shaft, then unbolted K~member and trans bolts, it really was easy with a kit that i bought from Dutch brothers

That would be great to have one of those kits but i just want to swap the k-member only w/o taking it all the way down. Thanks though.

Once you have the torsion bars out tap on the lower control arm pivot pin it should release. I would also put some penetrating fluid on the kframe bolts and let them soak awhile. Then remove the strutrods and idler arm and you are good to go.

Thats the answer i was hoping to get, so just use a rawhide mallet or dead blow and tap the pivot? do i need to loosen the pivot nut?

Yes the nut needs to be loosened to remove from kframe. Tap with mallet it should break loose.
