Does anyone have a picture of the kick down linkage and/or a description of the proper way to adjust it for a 440 with the newer style (73 and up) 727? The newer style only uses 2 rods and one pivot while the older uses 3 rods and 2 pivots.

I stole this from a post on Moparts but this is how I have done mine and it works well.

"If you have the 3 piece linkage here is how you adjust it. Step 1. remove the rod from pivot point that goes down to tranny. Get a drill bit. you'll see a hole in your pivot bracket. insert the drill bit through the bracket and pivot arm to lock it. Now adjust that lower rod that you took off the pivot earlier. adjust it so it will snap back on the pivot with out any downward pressure, in it's natural position. Step 2. remove the drill bit. Move throttle to wide open position. adjust the rod from throttle stud to pivot so you have aprox 1/8 play. You don't want to jamb the rod down tight. At wide open throttle you should be able to push that rod aprox another 1/8 inch. Hook your return spring back up and go for a ride. If it shifts a tad to late adjust it for more end play. On the 3 piece set up that lower rod needs to be adjusted to get correct geometry. That's why you start with the drill bit in pivot. That's why those holes are there."

It's the same theory for the later 2 piece but you adjust a nut with the lever all the way back and the throttle wide open with a little slack.... what most miss is even with the linkages right the pump pressure needs to be adjusted and there are specific pressure you read on a gauge first from driving the car.. then if that changes the adjustment is off... and a finer adjustment of the linkages are needed... after a few times and I like a drain on my trans for this because you may be in the pan a few times...

Having the correct throttle bracket and trans lever that match the corresponding single rod are also important to be able to make correct adjustment

Older pic of mine on the eddy air gap rpm with the ARE bracket.
