If anyone has the manual scanned for a 3 piece kickdown linkage adjustment please share.

I pinned the upper pivot(on the intake) and pulled up on the trans rod and adjusted it to fit. My book then says unpin it, and to remove the return spring(did not specify carb or kick down) and push the rod rearward and adjust the rear of the eye to the throttle shaft. I figured it meant the kickdown spring...

From the library database

1965-66 Polara, Custom 880, Monaco w/Automatic Transmission & 1966 Coronet & Plymouth 318, 361, 383 Engines With Automatic, & Some 1965 Coronet & Plymouth 318, 361, 383 & 426 Engines With Automatic
Apply thin film of multi-purpose grease on both ends of accelerator shaft (1), nylon roller (2), upper and lower pivot points (8) and (9) at bellcranks, and clipped ends of transmission linkage (10-11).
Disconnect return spring, slotted transmission rod (6) from lever pin. Disconnect intermediate rod ball socket (7) from upper bell-crank ball end.
Block choke open and operate throttle returns to full curb idle.
With a 3/16 in. × 4 in. rod (12) placed in the upper engine mounted bellcrank and lever (8) adjust the length of the intermediate rod (13) by threaded upper end adjustment. The socket (7) must line up with the ball, with the rod held against the transmission stop (14).
Assemble ball socket (7) to ball end and remove gauge rod (12).
Hold carburetor rod (15) forward against transmission stop (14) and adjust its length at the slotted link (6) so that rear of slot (6) just contacts the carburetor lever pin.
Lengthen carburetor rod (15) two full turns at link (6).
Assemble link (6) to carburetor.
Loosen cable clamp nut (4) and adjust cable position in clamp so that all slack is removed from cable at curb idle.
Back off ferrule (5) 1/4 in. This provides 1/4 in. cable slack at idle and retighten cable clamp nut (4).
Remove choke block.

I have tried to adjust mine by the directions you posted but I cant get it right with out the return spring hooked up the slotted adjuster falls back maybe 2" or so before any resistance is felt. my kick down wasnt hooked up when I got the car and the trans was rebuilt by the PO.could the part that attaches to the transmission need to be adjusted, havent looked under there yet to see how it attaches and cant find in my service manual how that should be adjusted,it says when you push the operater all the way back it should come back to the full forward position by it self but mine doesnt.I cant adjust the threaded adjusters any more because I run out of threads and with the free travel before any pressure is felt makes the trans shift like the kick down isnt hooked up I had to put a nut and bolt in the slotted rod so that pressure is applied when the accelerator is pressed and the car shifts like it should,I need to know how the connection at the trans should be adjusted. Thanks

I had the same problem. I eventually gave up and put in a Bouchillon Performance kickdown cable. It's not stock, but I had enough of the loose old linkages. Runs great. I kept the linkage of course so I could always put it back on, but I don't see that happnin'! If you give up too, it's a good option...

Back in the day we would cut them and add several inches. We them made a block with two holes for the rods to pass through with lock screws. You would adjust them where you needed them to be and then lock them down.
The cable makes it a whole lot easier but costs a little more $$$

Digging in the ebook

So my reading of the '66 Service Manual from the link above(THANKS!) shows a difference in adjustment for the 904(pg606 righthand column) and 727(pg606 lefthand column). There is an application chart(pg579) that shows the 904 only in sixes and 273s. I was always just looking at the 318 adjustment since my car came with a '74 318 I thought the PO had just used the "pack". I think I was holding the transmission lower rod upwards and the book says for the 273 (and therefore the 904) you need to hold it downwards- in bold letters.

727 "The ball socket [7] must line up with ball end with rod held upward against transmission stop[14].

904 "The ball socket must line up with ball end with rod held downward against transmission stop[11].
