Are kick down linkages specific to B or RB motors? My 66' Satellite came with a 361B and I am replacing it with a 440RB. Can the kick down linkage from the 361 be used or do I need one specific to a RB?
There are a few different types of kickdown linkages but I know the 383/440 kickdown linkages work together. They are the three piece type. Now if you have a 6pak setup that is also a different type of kickdown.
Well, to be a bit more specific, your 361 I am guessing is a 2 bbl. The 440 (again guessing) is a 4 bbl. Is there a difference in 2 to 4 bbl linkage, yes.
Also keep in mind there was no 440 in a B body in 66.
I converted my 383 2bbl over to 4bbl and yes I had to get new kickdown linkage.
The lever on the transmission is different as well.
Can you make the other stuff work, maybe - I didn't want to bother since the correct linkage is so readily available, I just got it and put it on.
I can give you part # differences if you like.
I am going to look these up for a 67 383/440 4bbl. You will also need a 4bbl throttkle cable. 2843750 It is a bit longer.
Trans kickdown lever on transmission is different 2536270
2806448 carb to cable bkt lever
2536265 lever to transm - 440 only
Trans to crank rod 2536274
Throttle Bell crank rod 2536266 440 only
2780876 cable mounting bracket 440 only
Everything else should be the same or will work.
You have a couple easier choices here. Find a 67 Charger, Belvedere or Coronet in a yard and grab the linkage. There are a bunch of places that have old stuff just sitting, but how cheap ... good question.
OR someplace like Jacks http://jacksautoparts.com/catalog/fuel.html and get the entire assembly. There is a BUNCH of stuff on EBay. Just a matter of picking the right stuff if you want it numbers correct. http://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_n...+AUTOMATIC+TRANSMISSION+&_itemId=290777667179
I can take pics of mine if you like or send service manual pages. PM me for my e-mail.
Another option, find someone on Craigs list parting a 67 383 or 440.

I used a 383 2 barrel kick down linkage on my 440 in my 66 and it works perfect. There is enough adjustment on the rods to make it work. I do remember shorting one of the rods. After three years it still works perfect and kicks down like it suppose to and looks original also. I did have to change the throttle cable. I can post you a pic if you like.
