Any kind of reference on that? Drawing, or maybe a photo.

Just want to see the correct way it links up on the bellcrank. Yeah, know it takes it's own rod...something I've got to pick up.

And, will that rod fit right, at the bottom end, on a later (67) 727?

Hey Miller. Got the gears turning this morning. I'm not sure they used them on the crossrams. I don't remember ever seeing one. You might call robert at A&A and see if he knows, (they don't show one online). Or maybe Mancini, but they don't show one either. I'm also not seeing a location hole or bracket (on my set-up) or different part number for an "Automatic" Transmission bellcrank or "manual" trans. I don't know of anyone else that would have one. Good Luck. Post an update and picture if you land on something. Man, that was a whole lot of "not helping at all". Am curious though if you find something.

Mike

Hey, Mike, know what you mean! Still working on my 4am pot of coffee!

I've been trying to look up info on that mess. Yes, there is a particular one-piece kickdown rod made for using on crossrams, bent to fit 'over' the top of the manifold. Have found a few photos of the rod in place, including the rod guide as part of the throttle cable bracket.

Got my linkage set from Crossram Connections, telling him what I had. That kickdown rod came up, while we were talking, which they do have. Pretty sure I've seen them at other sites, too. Just one of a kind thing, made for the maxi. The one question he had was, wasn't sure if the bottom end length was right for a later 727. Their made for 64 models, and such, my 727 is a 67 model.
I can check that real easy, 64 on the floor, 67 in the car, but doubt any dif on that pivot location.

But, like mentioned, haven't found anything on the rod hookup at the bell crank itself, or a close pic of that end of the rod itself. Could be plain as the nose on my face, lol. Need to get my hands on the rod.

Good morning Mr. Miller.

I don't have any photo's for you, but I can offer 2 other Vendor names that you could call for information. The first is Tony of Tony's Parts in Delaware (http://www.tonysparts.com). The 2nd is Kramer Automotive (http://www.kramerauto.com) located in Pennsylvania. Both of these guys have been in the hobby a long time and they know their way around crossrams.

Thank you, Sixpaksteve. Yup, a pic of the rod shows, but not enough detail on the ends.

Heck, guess all the Maxi drivers run standard gear bangers!

Ah...think I've got it figured out.
This pic is from Kramer Auto...

Had to get the magnify glass out, but the left end to the bellcrank has all kinds of adjustment. Should be no prob reaching my '67 727 pivot arm, and bellcrank end looks like ballstud/clip style hookup. Lol! Two plus two stuff.

Dang! Or is it the other way? Soon enough.

I to have purchased all my crossram parts from Crossam Connections but had not gotten to the kickdown yet. So when I do my crossram swap into my 65 Coronet I should go with a 65 727 tranny with the cable shift etc. and this would allow the use of Crossram Connections 64 Max Wedge linkage?

Yes, sir! You probably already know Crossram Connections make their own parts, including the kickdown rod. Just not positive on the rod bellcrank end, since the pic is from Kramer, and who their supplier is. Do know a handful of outlets handle the ones Crossram Connections make. Going to get wild (a first for me!), and guess hookups are the same.

Should be simple matter of getting carb linkages set first, then the kickdown adjusted at full throttle, rod back. Err, something like that.

Just to add another piece of information I have been in contact with Brian (Norms son at Crossram Connection) and he said they will have a kickdown cable available in a month or so that will work with the crossram race Hemi setup.

I wish I had a Hemi!! Good to know.

Hard to see, but here's a '64, with a kickdown rod installed, right side (in the pic) of the bell crank.

Think that kickdown rod will fit a '65 727, long as the main case is like the '64, the pivot same location. Don't have one in my hand.

Looks like it won't work on my '67 727. Or at least not without having to rework it, or make my own! 4-6 inches difference between pivot locations between early to later 727s, the later closer to the mating flange. Figures!

I found this pic and tried to blow it up a bit. It's a slightly different angle showing what Mr. Miller was showing in the b&w photo. Sorry to read that your 67 Tranny won't work Mr. M.

Thank you for looking, Sixpaksteve!

Actually, I'm doing two steps back. Think I was looking at it wrong. Plan on talking with Brian Monday, since he did question me on whether it would fit my year 727. If my thoughts are right...it will!

I thought the trans end of the rod fit at the 'intermediate' pivot arm, for lack of better term. But, closer look at the rod, now think the trans end goes directly to the kickdown/throttle pressure arm itself.
Every set-up I've had on previous cars used the multi piece rod sets, not one piece. That's what had me messed up.

But, on the trans themselves, '64 and '67, probably later included, looked at both the kickdown arm pivot, and the intermediate pivot.
'64 727...measured from the bell housing flange, intermediate is 6 1/8", kickdown arm is 9 1/2".
'67 727...measures intermediate is 2", but kickdown arm is the same, at 9 1/2".

Sooo...going to check with Brian, since they know how the rod mounts up. If it's like I think, it will go.
Should be the same deal on adjusting it, (almost) fully back at full throttle, with slight play.

The one piece rod goes from the bellcrank on the intake directly to the kickdown lever on the transmission.

OK, now I see what's going on. I have the kick-down rod throttle cable clamp, w/kick-down rod guide. That kit came from Ray Barton. For what ever reason my bell crank does not have the Kick-down rod connection leg or stud attachment. I bought the kit for the cross-ram Hemi to use the return spring attachment arms. At the time Ray didn't sell the components separately. It didn't matter to me at the time, as I had a manual trans in the car. Now it's a reverse, manual valve body 727TF with no kick-down... still don't need the rod.

Glad I watched this thread. Learned something new.

Me too! Thanks for getting my act straight! Knew somebody knew.

Gonna hold off a week for the rod, and give the family some time. Sad times!
