Ladies and Gentlemen - The Dashboard Has Left the Building

My wife was ecstatic to help me load my dashboard into the GTX this morning. Thanksgiving is coming and she thought it had become a permanent fixture on the dining room table.

The mass of wires under the dash is the old wiring harness still hooked up under the steering column to allow the car to start and drive. You can see the dangling ignition switch and key under the dash.

The new wiring harness has been installed to everything in the dash and requires I switch to the new bulkhead connector and complete the ammeter bypass under the hood. The red and black wires hanging out of the dash will go through the firewall to complete this process. Yes, I actually spliced into my brand new wiring harness to do this!

The Hellcat wants to know what this dusty old relic is doing taking up its garage space while it sits out in the rain.

Once the dash appears to all be functional, the front and year glass will go back in an the car will be driveable (without goggles, and yes, I have done that - LOL).

The rebuilt heat/AC unit can be seen under the dash. Classic Air in Tampa did the rebuild. I have until next summer to get the AC under the hood all done.

Radio bezel and AC vent chrome for dash is still at Spacecoast Chrome Plating in Melbourne, FL. Their three months should about be up.

Things are coming along - slowly.

Absolutely excellent! "Any color you want as long as it's black." is my moto when it comes to cars and yours just stands out the way I like them. After seeing the pics I can only conclude that your a man of talent.

That looks like a factory air car from the under-dash shot. Lots of stuff crammed in there that make working in there challenging. Good luck with the project.

It is a factory AC, PS and PB car. Working under the dash is a PITA. That is part of the reason I loaded the dash after installing the new wiring harness and making most of the under dash connections.. I am not as flexible at finding connectors and plugging things in while hanging upside down as I once was. I had the dash itself powder coated and am pretty happy about how it came out. The center AC vent radio bezel still being at the chrome plater and gives me some viewing and reaching access behind the dash. They are pretty easy to get to to do last.

It is pretty amazing how much you can disconnect and still have the car start and drive. All those lights, gauges, accessories etc. are just unnecessary fluff! LOL

MOST EXCELLENT...... on the Hellcat.... I'm not a new car kinda guy. New cars are "just transportation" to me and I have to thank this really beautiful chickie back in the early 90's for that. I was calling on her law firm and since my suits cost as much as the lawyers there...she "assumed" I was a roller. Took quick interest in me. As she dug around to see "if I was worth her time" she managed to work in ..."so what kind of car do you drive" (I was quick on my feet to spot a gold digger). So i told her the truth almost. I told her I drove a really nice 79 buick Century 4 door with matching green velour interior. Which indeed was sitting 40 stories downstairs and I bought it at an auction for 1300 and drove the wheels off it. THEN I would go home and hop in my 375 hp 67 Mustang coupe and it was PERFECT. the Valet guys at the club walked right past Michael Irvins Porsche to take my car and park it.

any way back to your GTX .....that is a thing of pure awesome!!
