largest rear tire that fits

what is the largest rear tire that will fit under our cars-with a 7 or 8 inch rim. I have fit a 275/60 and an L78-15. wonder what other sizes fit.

Considering this is in the 1962 - 1965 forum and his car is a a '65 Ply..

It's not that hard to weld in bigger tubs... if your going to put fattys on the back... plus it's a place rust likes to hide... an A body rear is a little narrower and moving the springs inwards is not a lot of fabrications.... instead of struggling with the factory dimensions...

29 x 10.5 will easily fit in 62 to 65 B-Body. Consider backspace though.

I had a 29 x 11 in my 63's stock wheelwells and the springs are in stock location. They fit but would rub on turns so I changed to the 30 x 9's I run now which fit with room to spare. Ron

I have a 62 440 with a 77 cop rear end and tried to put American racing with 275/60R15 on there 8in rims and they rub. The AR are 4.5" back spacing. The side walls are what's rubbing. I like the rims but not sure on what to do. Any help out there.

The year of car, rearend and even the individual tire have a lot to do with it.

My '63 330 has about 1 1/4" clearance inside and 1" outside.

Tires are Mickey Thompson 275/60/15, rims are 4 1/2" backspace 8" wide Wheel Vintiques and the rear is out of a 68-70 Charger.

i have noticed that a lot of guys have changed the rear end to a later model
I run 15x8 4 1/2 back space and 255's are the biggest that fit my car. I had 275's but they rubbed bad with a stock rear 1964
