I ordered some hood insulation clips on Monday and the cost of the parts was 50 bucks. When I checked to see what the total charge for the parts/shipping was, I damn near had a stroke, 62 bucks. I do shipping/rec. for a living and have damn near 20 years doing it, and I cant get over the cost of shipping a 1 pound, maybe 2, at best package, was another 12 bucks to go from Wa., to Ca.. I have learned my lesson, I will not buy anything from them nor anyone else that will not disclose the freight before you purchase or a reasonable estimate. This rant is just soley about the shipping cost and NOT the product they sell. Will Laysons do anything about this???????? Shipping and handling should not add 25 or so % to the cost of something you buy that has almost no weight at all. If I did this to my customers, we would go out of business.

Jegs has a handling charge for the products they sell. I bought a mopar electronic ign. plug. It comes in at a womping 1/2 pound. The 20.00 part ended up costing me 29 dollars and some change to my door. That is crazy, People just need to stop buying stuff from these rip off companies for awhile till they get there stuff together. Yearone is the worst with the shipping policy they have in place. I could not believe the cost to ship about 10 pounds in a good size box, I think it was about 50 to 60 dollars to ship 500 and something dollars of stuff. I don't shop there anymore.

Have you bought from Year One lately ? How about ebay guys that set the price they want for the part as shipping.

Companys are letting their shipping get out of control to make up for the price of parts, not really a smart idea if they want your business.

I no longer buy from Yea One for the same reason. I bought 2 quarter panels for my 70 dart and the shipping was $265.00. They are less than 100 miles away.

We do have a minimum shipping charge of $12.00 on all orders. This minumum charge was just recently increased to $12.00 from $10.00 around the first of the year.

This $12.00 covers the actual postal or UPS cost to have the package shipped, the cost of the packaging itself(whether it be a padded mailer or cardboard box...and shipping supplies are not cheap anymore!!!), and the percentage cost we have to pay to the card company to process the credit card used to pay for the part(usually around 2%-3% depending on the card). Once all of these factors are figured in, there's not a whole lot left of that $12.00...so nobody's getting stinkin rich from it.

UPS and postal rates have been going up, the cost of packaging materials have been going up, and the percentage fee to process credit card transactions have also risen in the past few months. The card companys are raising cardholder rates due to the bad economy, so they're doing the same thing on the other end of a transaction too.

We understand the financial pinch everybody is feeling because we're feeling it too. But we do try to keep shipping charges as reasonable as we can. I have oftentimes done shipping quotes for customers who are inquiring about parts and availability, and I try to keep them as low as possible without us losing money on the deal and it's tough to try to come to a reasonable cost, especially for our customers who are overseas and out-of-country.

And it's not completely unheard of for me to get a customer a reduction in shipping charges if I see an invoice where I think the customer has been charged too much for shipping. I'm not always successfull in getting the charges reduced, but sometimes I am.

I think its safe to say the cost of everythig is going up. It just sucks, LOL

That's for sure. I was looking at a couple little parts for the carb on my boat, 2 pieces that totaled $5.00 and weighed about 5 ounces combined, and shipping would have been another $9.50. Fortunately I was able to find them locally.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. But in most cases, shipping and handling is less than what it would have cost you to drive to the vendor's location and pick-up your items. Just my $0.02.

Well, it is what it is.

i have no problem with that when its up front. keeps feebay from raking them over the coals.

I checked the UPS rate from you to me and it was 5.60, 3% of 50 = 1.5 and boxes at best ( our price 48cents). So I do see some additional costs involed but also more profit on the back end after you take all the COSTS associated. Not saying you should not make a profit, but dont do it with shipping. If I pulled this on my customers, we would not sell anything. My ranting is over, thank you for listening.

this is just another money grab from dishonest dealers!!!they want to poke you for the part then give you anther poke for good measure on the shipping:mad:
If you guys made you shipping more reasonable you would sell a HELL of alot more product!:banghead::mad_6:
I find most of the eBay parts guys really want to bend you over for shipping and it doesnt help when they wont get off their lazy a$$es and do some home work at the post office!!:edgy:

Actually, they can still sit on their lazy asses and calculate the shipping costs on-line. As for inflated shipping charges, it is just another profit center and retailers should just build it onto the cost of the item(s). Granted, the higher cost may turn off some buyers but ethically, it is a sounder way of doing business. Profiting off shipping has always been a deceptive practice to me.

One note about shipping charges. If you buy a large item such as qtr panels or a hood it goes at oversize rate. Also something in a weird shaped or cylindrical box costs more too. I ship a lot of very expensive instruments (ie. 15 lb box insured at $3K or more) and the shipping is ~$36.00 within CA and maybe $50.00 within the US. Another thing is most business get commercial rates with UPS or FedEx, which can be 30% or more off the counter rate......and it would be nice if they quoted you their rate rather than the on line list price. I always try to have stuff shipped to me on my account number when possible. In my business I charge MY quoted price plus about $5.00 to cover the pickup service.

I agree some cleverly disguise the part cost in the shipping charges and that's BS. Kind of like that crap on TV for $9.95. What they don't tell you is the $150.00 freight bill!!
