My 67' GTX is leaking trans fluid around the shift lever. What is used to seal this (O ring, gasket)? Can I replace it with the trans in the car? Any advice to help would be great!

I had the same problem with my gTx when I got it...You can fix it in the car...You got to remove the tranny pan and the valve body...There are heavy duty seals avaiable as replacement..I popped in a stock one at first then when I upgraded my tranny I put in the heavy duty one...It,s a metal and rubber ghasket..

Thanks for the info guys!! Pretty Blue where did you get the heavy duty seal?

I'd go to a parts store or a trans shop. You need the selector seal, new pan gasket and would be a good time to change the filter.
Drain it properly so you don't make a big MESS:icon_geek:

There are 2 seals 1 for the selector shaft and 1 for the throttle pressure
shaft. They can be installed without removing the pan,it will take some time but can be done. The tool above [in picture]to remove the selector seal and there is a tool to install the selector shaft seal. You lube the seal with atf and slide it down to where the seal starts into the case then install the installation tool and tap it in with a small hammer. The throttle seal is a little harder, you need a seal pick to remove the old seal and lube and slide the new seal down and install the flat washer you removed on top of the new seal. Carefully use a small flat bladed screwdriver slowly and evenly press into place and it has to be in far enough to get the E clip back on.You may have to pull up on the throttle shaft and press the seal down at the same time to get the E clip on. I have done many of them and the first one takes some time.

In the pic with the red circle under the E clip and washer is the throttle shaft seal.
