I have a Hemi 4 speed behind my 440 6 Pac & the whole setup has only 1060 miles on it. Trouble is my tranny leaks , BIG TIME! I know the culprit, it`s the 1 inch shaft below the imput shaft, but the guy fixing it says that this shaft must be wore out?? The tranny was to have been completely redone & ready to go when i purchased it for $1700.00. It`s a factory replacement with no #`s on the pad & the guy working on it now wants to replace the case or the shaft. He tried just gooping the end of this shaft with "The Right Stuff" but that didn`t stop the flow. :angry9: I think my biggest question here is, "Is there no "o" ring seal or any kind of seal on the end of this shaft? I had a 70 383 4 speed Runner that never leaked like this!! I know diddley about trannys ,let alone Hemi trannys. Any help would be greatly appreicated, Thanks

Found the problem

My tranny guy has confirmed that my case is toast!! The counter shaft has no seals on it & mine fits tightly into an extra case that he has for sale. I guess no one has ever experienced this with their tranny`s before, as i just got one reply. He says it should be ready to roll tomorrow & dry from here on in! It would have been nice to here more about this problem or other peoples solutions. I thought about trying a bead of "The Right Stuff" between the tranny case & the bell but the guy working on it  says that`s a band aid.

Wish I could of helped. Hope things work out.

Your mechanic is right and you did the right thing. The countershaft isn't a press fit, but it should be tight. Leaking indicates that either the shaft is worn (not likely, as it doesn't move) or the case has 'moved' due to heavy use or it was incorrectly machined (drilled) in the first place. Problem should be fixed.
