Hi,

My rearend (489-casing, 4.10:1, 8.75) is leaking and I hoped it was the gasket but...well...it isn't, it's the seal.

Is there a quick'n'dirty way to fix this?

Thanks!

Nope. Got to drop the driveshaft and pull the pinion yoke.

Definitely dirty, but not quick

......And it's even dirtier than that. The 489 uses a crush sleeve and it's very easy to over tighten the pinion nut on reassembly. If you go too tight you will put too much preload on the pinion bearings.

That's what I was affraid of...*sigh *...at least the axle doesn't run empty...
