Well after having a listing wire pop inside my drivers side bucket seat, i decided to tear down the seat myself and see what's going on inside. Sure enough the foam was in turmoil but the frame and springs surprisingly were in excellent condition. I called legendary auto to see what i can do for the foam, and they had just finished making a molded foam setup for my particular bucket seats! After ordering that and a rebuild kit (burlap, listing wire, etc) I decided to tackle it myself. It came out better than I had expected it would. Plus, i now learned how to do basic upholstery!

The other neat thing I learned about my seats is that they were apparently reupholstered back in 1996 because when i peeled the vinyl back, there was the legendaryautointeriors label attached to the vinyl! Thanks to that, legendary sent me free replacement buttons since 3/4 of mine were all falling apart. The seat looks good as new! except for the pre-existing tears that are minor at best. Legendary makes awesome stuff and their customer service is top notch! I had to call a few times to clarify some installation procedures, and they were extremely helpful.

How did you do the listing in the seat backs?

I could not figure that part out.

My backs are currently at an upholstery shop for $50-$65 each. Not terrible.

Yours look great BTW.

Through a lot of cursing, sweat, and yelling for avout 45 minutes.

I put the top of the vinyl on and fitted it snug. The top listing wire went first. The cavity that the vinyl wire had to reach down into for the foam wire was extremely deep. I had to compress the **** out of the foam to get the vinyl wire to reach.

For the sides, i had hardly any room to get a hog ring on the wires. I tried the same thing and compressed the foam to make it easier but realized i was chasing the foam down as i comoressed. Took a couple pieces of 2x4 and put it under the foam so when i compressed, it stayed put. After that some extra sweat and cursing and i got it all on.

The previous holes made in the vinyl changed since this foam is a lot thicker, but other than that it all lined up great.

Hey guys. Just a little update. I got the other seat done and installed. It truly is amazing the difference after sitting on it.

I added a couple pics to show the process on the back portion. The top listing wire goes first, and as i said i had to compress the absolute tar out of it to work.

A tip from me is since it takes so much compression to get to the bottom of the foam, i didnt want to leave 1 hog ring holding all that pressure and risk ripping something. I lightly hammered a few hog rings so i could keep the pressure on the foam, and do a 1 handed reload on the pliers.

For the vertical wires with the buttons, there is not a lot of room to work with. But if you come at it from the outside, you can just barely get enough room to reach in and ring the wires together. Just be sure to support the foam from underneath with wood or something to help when you compress.

I just had a upholstery shop install new foam and burlap in my front bucket seats. They also replaced one spring with a used component. I thought about seat buns and doing the job myself, but this particular shop takes seat foam and glues a thin layer of temperpedic material and shaves and shapes. Both front buckets new foam, temperpedic, one used spring at $150 total. Seats sit like my Grand Marquise now.

I agree with manic_mopar that Legendary seat covers are the best. I have used them in the past and the quality and durability is excellent.

I picked up my backs this week.

Guy added a layer of matting so they filled out real nice.

I did that to one of the bottoms, but on the driver's side, it put my hair into the headliner, so I skipped it on that side.

He also only charger me $40 each.

They look great and I'm super happy.

Did you bring the apholstery shop the seT foam from legendary or did they custom carve Nd install their own foam into it? I currently have legendary covers but no foam ... thinking of just bringing to a shop and have them them custom shape foam for install.

I cant speak for him obviously, but the foam for these seats are top notch. I cant believe i drove on the original foam for so long! The new ones are night and day different and excellent construction.
