Lense cleaner

I need some help. I was watching Graveyard cars a while back and they were cleaning tail light lenses with a acid of some type and made them look brand new. Anyone remember what it was? Thanks for your help!!!

You can polish them with white then green rouge.

It was muriatic acid. On a side note, I would probably be really careful using this on lenses and maybe test it on a set of lenses that have no value if you are going to try it. Or wait for someone to chime in that has done it before.

Muratic acid is stored in plastic bottles, so I could not see it damaging the lens. It should clean the dirt and whatever critters (fungis) that might be on them, but do not see it removing scratches. That is what polishing rouge is for. I would concede to check it first on a non-important lens first.

That being said, a show that shows the INCORRECT way of installing the main bearings (oil hole down) without showing their mistake, drop a car off of the jack/lift/whatever, and way too much reality TV drama, is sad. We finally get a MoPar show, and they have to screw it up like that....

For polishing, I generally use plastic cleaners and polishes by Meguiar's, such as PlastX. It gives a super shiny finish and is easy to use.

But if you have rust stains from the screws, then the muriatic acid comes in handy.

X2 on the Plastx. I used that on my RR tail light lenses and they turned out great. I would be interested in trying out the rouge method though also.

I sanded some pitted lenses for my 70 GTX with 800+1000 grit followed by Mothers may and aluminum polish. They look brand new.

Be careful if you use a buffing wheel. It can soften and gouge the plastic if it stays in one place too long.

I agree and would add that all they are doing with all the grabass crap is validating the false beliefs that the chebby and fardt guys have of Mopar owners.

Muratic acid will also remove any paint that was applied by the factory (or others).

If you want to remove paint from a grille submerge it in brake fluid. It won't hurt the plastic.

Some what, muratic acid? We have talked about a number of products. You can get muratic acid from any pool store like "Patio Pools".
