Anyone had any experience with liftgates on a fullsize pickup? I need to get one for the shop. Tommygate seems to have to most options. But Waltco, Ultron, Maxon, Eagle, Anthony, who knows? The Tommygate guy told me their steel is only 40lbs heavier than their aluminum, was surprised at that. Of course which ever dealer you talk to "theirs" is the best. Any thoughts here?

i have only used tommylifts on pickups, and they were great quality.have used waltco and maxon on big rigs, but have never used them in smaller applications.

My wife and I had a small furniture store and I bought a Tommygate to help load and deliver the heavy stuff. Sold the truck many years later and the gate wouldn't fit my new truck so I let it go. I want another really bad but can't swing the money yet. Got a free 440 once because of it. Guy told me to find me several buddies to help me lift it off the floor and get it out of his way and when I showed up with my truck with the lift gate and by myself, he said "damn, if I had known it would be that easy, I would have asked for some money" lol Imo, the gate paid for itself pretty fast! Got used a lot and picked up some heavy stuff including a samll engine lathe which put more than the rated load on it. After years of abuse, the hydraulics started leaking down a bit when it was closed, but so long as the tail gate was latched, it wasn't a problem. All I had to do was hit the up for a second and I could unlatch it and put it to use. It didn't leak down with a load on it unless you left it on there for 15-20 minutes and then it would only go down about an inch and this is all after 10 years of heavy use. I will buy another and it will most likely be a Tommygate.

Tommygate hear too...

Seems we have a concensus for Tommy here. Were you using steel or alum? Single ram or dual? 1000lbs, 1300, 1500? This will be used not only for motors & trannys but also the occasional barrel of drainoil.

A local self service auto repair shop has a lift gate on their S10 shop truck. I checked it out to see how it was installed on their truck. The staff there told me that the lift still works fine and is constantly put to work. I noticed that the truck bed is actually bowed downward from all the heavy use over the years
