Light weight trans cooler duct

Last year moved the cooler from under the drivers seat to the front behind the bumper. Didnt want to attach it to the radiator as the radiator/fans remove in 5 minutes. Making 3 runs in less than an hour trans can get to 250°. Thought about a fan for the cooler. But the car has 2 huge fans. Why not use them? So started fabbing a tunnel with left over trailer aluminum. Using my $15 Harbor Frieght shear and a cobbled brake.

Doug, presuming the fans are pushers and the shroud part you made keeps whatever residual air flow from the fans directed at the cooler fins?

I never liked having the trans cooler in the front so this is what I did. It's a little tight but it would certainly be easier to accomplish without a gas tank and full exhaust in place. I have the module wired into my EFI as an output. It works off a trans temp sensor in the pan. Obviously this method requires a bit of an investment for the module plus some extra wiring and plumbing but nothing you couldn't handle.

All done. Has good draw. Pulls paper right up to the cooler with even only one of the two fans running.

Anybody with a square, tin snips, clamps and a couple of 2×4s can do it. Just takes patience. This is a fan shroud from last year. The fan had to be offset for turbo clearance.

My B&M plate cooler is right behind the grille and cools incredibly. Hottest the trans gets in traffic is 180-90 on the hottest days. Never went above that in competition, though I was only test and tuning and not really doing rounds.

Normally stay less than 180°. The only time it really had airflow was going down track. Staging, driving in the pits, idle there was none. You'll be happy to know the aluminum was .030" so very little weight gain, lol.

Thank the Gods that you added a slight weight gain right where you need it most, that way it keeps that wild rearing Plymouth on the ground. LOL.
