Just about have the 400/trans ready to go in the 71. Out of a 78 N.Yorker, 50k miles. Bone stock other than headers, intake and carb (for now). Waiting for my oil slinger...

I'd seriously consider changing the cam as well. The stock one drops right off in torque above 3,000 and same for horsepower above 4,000.
If you're concerned about cost the smaller summit cam would be a good choice.

I just want to get it on the road get everything dialed it and make sure it runs right for a little bit first. It will be the first time this car has been on the road in the 15 years I've owned it as it was just a rust free SE big block shell when I attained it. Summit cam or a Lunati cam was what I narrowed it down to. Maybe a slightly higher stall also

I also have to cycle the finish on my headers to not ruin them. I may just drive it through the summer and when I park it next winter, I may get some Edelbrock heads, cam and converter.

I’ve heard good things about those summit cams, also made in USA .. I would have to see it to believe it but it’s worth checking out .

A relative had one in a 70 Challenger RT 440 car, ran pretty good.

Summit K6400 or K6401 cam would help on that engine. INstalled the K6401 in my 440 ran good and was tame as far as " lopey" hate using that word but sounded great. THis is the same cam in @khryslerkid car.
