Hello everyone, newish member here. I have a 68 Charger that I finally sent out to get finished after realizing that I'll never have the time to do it myself. It only took 15 years or so. I bought Lizard Skin awhile back, not sure if it will still be good but wondered who here has used it and if so what do you think? Any tips? Thanks! Matt
 
I used it on one project, it works but not nearly as well as other stuff I've used... I won't buy it again...
 
FBBO member "Darius" used it on his '70 GTX. He seems to be happy with it.
 
He doesn't post much except in the Political forum. You may have to message him directly.

Yes, both products.. They work okay... Not great & not bad.. Just Okay...

The heat rejection isn't even close to as good as my preferred product..

I've sprayed a good bit of undercoating & Bedliner products, I'm decent at getting them to lay down pretty well... Lizard Skin doesn't spray well at all, lumpy & uneven... It's covered up so it doesn't really matter... But I like stuff to look decent & I couldn't get that from Lizard Skin..

My preferred product is from DEI (Design Engineering Inc). I use allot of their UC lite, it is a 1/2" thick pad that can be used under carpet & in the headliner... It's decent at noise damping but mostly it is excellent at heat rejection...

It does quiet things quite a bit but it doesn't give you complete isolation..

I don't do big stereos, I like the car to still have some of it's own sounds but I want the engine heat & heat from the sun kept at bay... I want the A/C to blow cold & if I want warm I have a heater... DEI UC lite does that very well..... The photo is from one of DEI's advertisements...

I wound up talking with one of their engineers & that ad got brought up... What is shown is two meters with thermocouples showing the temperature on either side of a piece of UC lite, and a torch cooking one side... What isn't mentioned that the engineer told me is that the picture was taken after ten minutes of heating the chamber...
one side over 500 degrees, the other side 70.....

I can confirm that after hours of driving you get no engine heat...

What you dont see is that the heat escapes through the top right after hitting the material. There is no way that heat has time to build up with no top on that box.

Yes, heat rises... But ten minutes of cooking with a torch there still would be heat transfer...

FWIW I've tried enough products, for most applications UC lite is a great choice...

I would have to see this for myself I do not believe that the heat could ever transfer to the other side. 70 degrees would probably be ambient room temperature. Why would you not do this test with the setup like it would be in a car? The boxes above and below. That way you can get a real feel for how the heat would transfer. Torch in the bottom box. The matting above and the other temp sensor and box above. That would be a more realistic way of testing. This test is like trying to heat a house with all the windows and doors open.
 
I can't tell you how well it's going to work but I just shot in the TRex undercoating. It laid down beautifuly.
In their product catalog I now are that they make a thermal product as well.
My kit came with 8 bottles for $153...I've used 3 bottles and have a nice medium build up.

It looks awesome, should hold up well. I wonder how the sound deadening and heat resistance will be
