looking for a low note horn to match my hi note horn. both say Spartan Model SA, on the front one says LO one says HI. My Hi note horn works and I was able to tune it, but my LO note horn would not work at all when tested on a battery. So need a LO note that works or info on how to fix it. Original to 1964 Plymouth, I think the 65+ horns looked slightly different. Thanks.

Hook to battery and turn the tone adjuster screw. I was in the same boat, and thanks to an FBBO member stating to crack the screw and WEAR HEARING PROTECTION because it works!

Thanks, I tried that with HI one (at first it was making a small quick little sound but not fully working, and then I adjusted it to get a good horn sound), but the low one seems to not respond at all, I tried adjusting it to various points but got nothing. also in my manual it states to not turn the adjusting screw while the horn is hooked up? not sure why its says that. I've been just adjusting it "blind" and then hooking up to battery after I do the adjustments.

So do u think if I go completely unscrew and then slowly screw the adjuster back in while its hooked up I will find the correct spot? I'm thinking something broke or burnt out in the LO horn, because the working HI one seems to have a large window of adjustment where it will at least make some sort of sound.

also what do you mean by "crack" the screw

All I know is mine was dead. I banged it around thinking it would loosen up the oscillator and that didn't work. Was searching for another one when oldbee suggested turning the pitch adjuster and a simple crack of same was all it took to make it work again. If you've moved that screw already and still nothing then maybe you are indeed looking for a replacement.

Ya the adjuster seems to be doing nothing on the LO one. I've turned the adjuster to various points, tested, and it still wont work.

I could take mine apart by removing the rivets and see what's going on. I'm curious what part of it goes bad inside and if it could be repaired or replaced.

I've also banged it on the floor like you did but it that didn't help, but maybe I need to hit it harder!

anyone have any luck with horn repair?

I know people are rebuilding them which basically is cleaning the internals it seems. The Sparton Road Runner horns were being rebuilt as Frank Mitchell was selling parts and rivets for the BpBp horns awhile back...
very helpful. the last paragraph in the post states(I'm quoting the linked thread), and this is after the did a full rebuild of horns that worked to begin with:

"I tested both horns after the paint dried and found, to my chagrin, that neither worked. I pulled both of them apart and with a lot of trial and error found that the diaphram needs to be isolated from the body of the horn. Odd, because this did not seem to be the case when I disassembled them, but maybe that is why they were not working. Anyways, I coated the edge of each diaphram with liquid electrical tape and put them back together again. I also coated the rivets. The good news is, They both now work properly with a good strong tone."

so maybe this is the key! I'm gonna try to fix mine and will post results

I tried to do the above method to make it work, but still NOTHING.

So I still need a LO horn if someone has one
