Hi All,

I am just starting a complete rewire on a 1969 Resto-mod Charger using a Painless B-body harness. Paint and body is complete so I want to use the existing firewall holes where I can to mount components. The Painless fuse box is the setup for customized vehicles so I am not going to use the factory hole. I am thinking of making a bracket to use the two holes to the left of the master cylinder (pictured) to mount the fuse box as high and to the left under the dash as possible. Could someone tell me if these holes are factory and what they were used for? They exit into the fender well. I am thinking they are for the snaps that hold the firewall pad in. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I'm not sure that there will be enough room to mount a fuse box there - that's the location for the fresh air vent box. I am fairly sure that the vent box is tight up against the firewall. Those two holes are either for the inner splash shields (on the inner of the front fender) or they are home made for hanging firewall insulation.

That is what those holes are for. You are correct. However, If you plan on installing the vent, your fuse box will be in the way. If not, you will need to seal the hole above. Here is a pic of mine

That makes total sense. I saw those big holes on both sides earlier today and was thinking some vents went there and then forgot about them when I was looking for a fuse box location. This car is missing MANY parts including those vents. Is there a downside to just blocking them off? We are going to install a heat/AC system from Classic Auto Air.

If you are going to use a classic air box, you will have plenty of room to install your painless fuse box. Probably under the glove box where the factory put it. I am not familiar with their unit but I doubt if they use the hole on the passenger side as that vent was incorporated in the factory heater box so that will more than likely need to be blocked off. I'm sure someone on here will have some input with that. I'm pretty sure I have a left side vent if you need it.

That's great. We are ordering the Classic system tomorrow so once that is in I should know what is needed and I will let you know. Thanks again!

Good luck. Should be tons of fun. Don't forget to give us some pics. We like evidence.
