i,m looking for a 4 barrell intake and carb for 67 318:santa:

I'm pretty sure there were no factory 318 4V intakes in 67. What you really need for a "stock" motor is a LD4B Edelbrock. It's a dual plane much like the factory 340 intake, but with small ports and runners for a 318

LD4B is good - very good, but more budget minded choice is the stock 360 set up with a TQ. I know the ports don't match, but it will still work fine (I ran one on a 318 many years ago). Hey, is there an intake bolt hole angle issue with the early 318's or is it just the 273? Been a long time that I messed with small blocks.

Just the early 273. True, the cast intake will cost probably $20-40, but the ones you see most often are the later spread bore egr type. A LD4B will be for a square bore, be probably 30 pounds lighter, and cost $100 give or take

Both of the recomended intakes will work fine.

The LD4B I have and run now. It's a nice squarebore intake. Very torquey with good up top HP.

The Cast iron intakes are fine as well. The port mismatch will not be noticed while driving around and a T-Q on top, if it's a later year '71 plus intake are cheap as cheap gets.

I'm surprised the Edel. Performer was not mentioned. They can also be very cheap to get. They also have 318 size runners and except T-Q's right quick or a Edelbrock adapter plate from Edelbrock will allow a squarebore carb to go on top easy enuff.

It should also out power ethier of the 2 previously mentioned intakes.
Junkyard/swap meet cost should be less than $125, and @ $125, I'd call it expensive. I have routinely grabed then for about $75.

You're not kidding about the high RPM HP with the LD4B!! Actually, the one my buddy and I ran years ago might have been a D4B and that thing on a good 340 would spin to 7 KRPM if you weren't careful! Pretty much the same casting as far as I can tell. I built the engine with a .474" MoPar cam; 10:1 CR; pocket ported 73 heads with 2.02's; 650 Holley DP; headers; 3.23 Sure Grip. All this was in a 69 4 spd Dart. That car ran 13.84 @103 through the mufflers on stock replacement 14" Sears tires at Fremont! It wasn't my car, but the owner couldn't drive worth beans, so when we showed up to the track (or W. 10th St. :grin:) he just handed me the keys. Ooooh I had fun in that car.

I never ran a Performer on a small block, but I agree it would be a great choice for a stocker or something mild. I was just thinking cheeeeeap and the late iron ones are almost free. TQ's are great if you have good vacuum and can also be had for nearly free.

On a 340, it was more likely a LD340 I think because that would be the recomended intake for that engine or a 360 with it's larger ports. Another outstanding intake from Edelbrock.

Though the LD4B would fit and work, it would be more of a torque maker with the thinner runners. I have a LD340 modded as per MP performance books say to do.
That! My freind really woke up alot of my engines.

The DP4B was the 383 intake. Had one on my 66 Satellite. I remember reading a review of low deck big block intakes aa year or so ago and it held its own on mildly hopped up motors against today's designs.

No one mentioned a DP4B. A D4B is a different intake. But you are correct. A DP4B is a really good intake for a low block.

but you already knew I liked them

OK, I think I got mixed up with all the L's, D's, 4's and P's. I know the LD340 (large volume runner high rise). I also remember the D4B (if I got my letters correct), which looked identical but much cheaper at swap meets. The screaming Dart had a large runner type, and I thought it said D4B, but could be mistaken. I have a DP4B on my 383 with a factory 440 AVS (about 700 CFM). 12.98 @ 104 with the MoPar .528" cam.

As far as I know the letter codes break down as follows: D4B = Dodge 4 BBL. DP4B = Dodge Ply 4 BBL. CH4B = Chrysler 4 BBL. SP2P = small port dual plane. F4B = Ford 4 V. F427 = Ford 427. O4B = Olds 4 BBL, and so on. Would LD340 mean LA Dodge 4 BBL specifically for the 340? LD4B = LA Dodge 4 BBL other than 340?? Just a guess.

The letter/number codes make sense until you talk to an Edelbrock guy. Then they say that isn't what we pout them on there for. ---- Ya! oOOO kAAAA.

I have both Edel. intakes. I'd describe them like this;

LD4B, Dual plane 4 bbl. intake for the smaller port heads. IE; 273/318.
LD340; Dual plane 4bbl. intake for the larger port heads. IE; 340/360

I would use them like this;

LD4B on the smaller 2 displacement engines from a general 4bbl. swap to a nice hi-performance but yet everyday streetable driver.
On the larger 2 displacements as a high torque intake. Very mild cam.

I think this intake would be good for a 350 hp engine. Not to much more. Somewhere around this area a intake change would be a bennifit on the street.

LD340;

On the smaller engines, a VERY high performance intake for a serious street machine.
On the larger engines, a general high performance intake that can pump out some good power.

My LD340 is modified as per the MP books Rx. Milled divider and opened up for the T-Q.
It's a real screamer.

tq intake

40 plus. . . .from fla.
