Hello all. I have been looking for some time at car trailers. I am leaning towards an Appalachian brand out of Salem, Ohio or a couple others and wanna stay around the 10k gvrw and the 20' length. I found out today that the Appalachian uses Lippert axles rather than Dexters. I was bummed because the rest of the trailer is nice 6x2 rectangular boxed steel for the tongue and frame with nice features like the 7k foot jack, 16" on center deck bracing, removable driver fender, 4' dovetail, etc. Anyone have any suggestions for a nice steel deck car trailer that won't make me remortgage my house? Also any info on the Lippert axles or any experience? Thanks in advance!

Mine is just a plain old steel frame wood deck trailer. 2-3500# axles and a dovetail. Ramps stored underneath in the rear(where you need them anyway).

I have hauled hundreds of cars, trucks, equipment, materials etc on my trailer. I prefer the wood deck because on several occasions i have attached various blocking to the deck of my trailer to support and secure various things. A few years ago i replaced the wood decking which was an easy couple hour project.

I hate dove tails with a passion. Just something to get hung up on. Anything under 78 inches width will really put the limits on what can be loaded. Myself I prefure flat beds.

I bought my open 18' trailer back in 1995 or so brand new for $995.00. It was a 7000 lb GVW universal/landscape trailer. Over the years I added the winch & battery, tool boxes on both sides, brakes to both axles & once the wood deck rotted out I replaced it with 3/16" diamond plate steel deck that I have owned for many years before I even bought the trailer. It has hauled hundreds of cars, tractors, ATV's and whatever else over the years. I don't use it much anymore since I purchased a 28' enclosed trailer now last year.
