Looking for a set of California black w/gold lettering plates for my 67. Should have 63 stamped in the corner. It should look like the one below. Any letters or numbers would be fine.

67gtx.... I'm looking too! Best place so far I found is on ebay! Must have a pair to switch over to YOM plates..;o)

Yup. I found plates for my 72 Duster there. Number on them is 872 as well. Paid $25 + shipping I think. Nice plates too

I just found out about putting the 63 series plates on a car and it's not as simple as just having the plates. What the DMV wants is the original year sticker matching the year of the car they are going on. So far I've heard nothing about matching the original first letter sequence to the year, such as Y, Z = 1969; W, X = 1968; U, V = 1967; etc... I also understand the original year sticker will go on the left side and will always be visible and a separate metal tab will be issued to accommodate the month and consecutive year stickers for the right side. If you have a 63 car then no sticker is required because the plates are embossed with a 63. Come to think of it I don't think there are any 63 stickers. I have been told that when these plates came out everyone had to change over to them, which would explain the unavailable 63 stickers, so rather than being issued a sticker they got the plates I guess.

The first letter sequence holds true for the blue plates as well. A or B and maybe C should be late 69 to 1970; D, E = 71; F, G = 72

Last time I was at the Pomona Swap Meet there was more then one person selling black plates that were advertised to be clear. Most of the plates I saw were restored but there were a few that were in original condition. (If you need someone to restore old plates I know someone) Then go to Auto Club, which is much easier to deal with then DMV and take care of all the paper work.

Not sure. But you can bet when we do we're gonna build that wall:rolling:

Up until some time in the 70s we got new plates every year. So it's relatively easy to get the proper plates. No need to know what alpha prefix you need.
