I recently picked up a '71 Road Runner that has a manual sunroof. The person I bought it from insists it's an original factory installed sunroof, but I have my doubts as the car doesn't have a vinyl top. Is there a sunroof guru out there that can give me some guidance? It's not on the fender tag and I haven't looked for a build sheet. Since the interior has already been redone, I would be surprised if there was a build sheet.

Thanks!

It is a factory sunroof, but it appears to be from a 73/74 Plymouth or Dodge. 71/72 sunroofs were operated by an electric motor operated by a switch.

Is it possible that it's an original sunroof to the car and the motor setup was removed and replaced with the hand crank during the restoration? Car was coded for a remote trunk release on the fender tag but it's no longer on the car, three speed that was changed to 4 speed, added air grabber, wing, chin spoilers louvers and such etc etc etc.

What is the VON on the fender tag?

Sounds like a car with all kinds of cool options added. Orange seats even.

The electric ones are American Sunroof. With many parts from Golde; a German sunroof company.

The A bodies had manual sunroofs. I wonder if the bottom option was a manual one for the B bodies?

The devil is in the details - there should be 4 drain tubes, the rear ones end up in the wheelhouse I think, the fronts in the bottom of the A pillars? Someone help me out.

it's my opinion the sunroof would definitely be on the body code plate. if I wanted to add a sunroof, later in a car's life, I would favor a factory setup, and take every care to make it look original.

some nice ones were done by the dealer, also, back in the day.

original or not, yours looks really great.

Measure the opening side to side and front to back. The demensions are different on the 71/72 sunroofs verses the 73/74 sunroofs. I have two 73/74 sunroof roofs I can measure.

The manual crank and the electric motor are interchangeable.

What I was trying to determine was:

1. Is this one of the 82 original sunroof cars? No. All sunroof cars were built in the St. Louis plant. Mine was built in Windsor (which I knew). The VON of the sunroof cars start with G99. Mine does not.
2. Is the sunroof that's in it really a factory sunroof? Yes. Like said above, it's 73-74 sunroof based on the front curvature of the sunroof and the hand crank.
3. When was this installed since it's a really good job with no vinyl roof? Sometime early in the car's life. The car is already in the sunroof registry and well known to the keeper of the registry.

Charger vert has sunroof cars...so does his friend Gary .....very knowledgeable!
