I was watching ESPN 2 this last Sunday & noticed that a long time West Coast & NHRA Alky Funny Car Owner Driver Lou Gasparelli has died 1943- 2011 he was only 68 years of age (I not positive of name spelling) I'm not sure of exactly what or exactly when, I just would like extend my deepest sympthy to his family & friends he was allway a friendly person at the track I didn't know him personaly, just a few conversations in staging lanes & watching him run his beautifull Alky Funny Cars for many years at old Freemont, Sacramento, Sears Point & many other tracks & points races or national events over the last couple of decades. He will surely be missed. Budnicks

Its been happening alot these days losing all these old time drag racers. Lost a few good friends also. RIP Lou Gasparelli!

Have heard of him for many years. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. RIP Lou

Here's some info:

Gasparelli, a long time West Coast Division 7 runner, died at the age of 68 after a long bout with cancer. Lou collected several national event wins and divisional championships in Top Alcohol Funny Car in the latter part of a career that spanned several decades, later stepping into an ownership role in 1998 while his son, Steve, took over the driving chores. Although he largely campaigned within his home division, Gasparelli was widely considered to have one of the best running machines alky floppers in the country. In 1971, he was one of the first on the West Coast to construct a purpose-built car for the then gas-powered BB/FC class.

Lou Gasparrelli is survived by his wife Vickie, brother Michael, son Steve, daughter Shari, daughter-in-law Janina, and grandchildren Jillian and Tobin.
