Have a 69 Sport Satellite...Horns and relay were not present when got car 10 years ago. Went out and bought a new relay for the car and two horns (high and low tone) Wolo Brand. Not sure how to wire this together from the two wires that come from wiring harness to the horn relay. Help Please.... image.jpg

I believe 1 wire goes from battery to the relay, the other wire goes from horn button to the relay. And 1 wire from relay to horn. When the horn button is pushed, it sends 12 volts to the relay, which then switches on full battery current to the horn. But dont know which is which. The relay may be marked. Good luck!

actually, one of those wire will be 12v hot, the other wire goes to horn button, that grounds the relay and sends 12v to horns. When horn button is pushed, it does not send 12v to the relay, it's a ground connection. Would need to see terminal side of relay to tell you which wires go where..they should be marked "H', "B", & "R" I think

Usually the horn button supplies the ground not 12 volts to the relay. Having said that you would run 12 volts to two terminals (one to the + side of the coil and the other to one side of the relay switch) then run your horn ground to the other side of the coil and your horn feed to the other side of the relay switch. Since the relay will only activate when there is +&- you will have + all the time to the relay coil and it will only activate when it is grounded "horn button". Hope this helps, if you have any trouble post a pic of the terminal layout (there is usually a pic of the relay internals with terminal numbers).

747mopar : Hope you're not talking about the ignition coil...

Try this for a universal wiring diagram of a horn. Just connect the two horn terminals together for duals and make sure the horns are both grounded.

So this schematic is showing a four prong relay.....I was given a three prong relay by the local auto part store. and my relay isnt labeled:angryfire::confused2:

Can anyone tell me if there relay is a three prong or four prong relay? :angry7:

One other thing can u guys possibly post a pic of your horn/horn relay setup? Thanks everyone

The wiring diagram that 68GTX440 posted shows a 3 prong relay. The center terminal is constant power (violet) the left terminal comes from the horn button (Dark Green with Red Trace) and the right terminal (Dark Green) goes to the horns. Give that a try.

ok...cawse the previous diagram that coloradodave put up look like a four prong. ill give it a shot

Dryheat is correct, follow the diagram 68GTX440 put up and you will be fine. it even shows you how to hook up both horns, although I like my beep beep single ;)

Seriously? the ignition coil. No, relays use a small coil to create the magnetic force that pulls the switch in.

Yeah. Thanks for the education...however, there is a real need to be specific. Can you see how a novice might misinterpret this?

Yeah, I guess your right it might be confusing but I did state "relay coil" in my post. I always find these problems easier for someone to understand and figure out if they understand how it works, not just telling them where to put which wire. If you know how it works you can figure it out pretty easily. Your welcome for the education, next time maybe we can not take pokes at someone for trying to help.

747mopar: Sorry if you took it that way. It wasn't meant as a poke. I don't know your expertise and, as I'm sure you know, sometimes the 'aid' given on this site is, let's say, not entirely correct. If I offended you, I apologize.

Here is a schematic that will show you the wiring to and from

thanks for your schematic. Just purchased a 69 gtx and was missing the horn and wiring has been butchered overthe years. worked out great.
