I have an opportunity to pick up this low ramp dual quad with twin 600 Edlebrock's on it. Ignore the ugly paint, it has real smooth progressive linkage and new 2 into 1 braided line. My plan is to eventually use this on my test mule 440 in my 330 wagon but that's a little ways off. I use my '67 Polara wagon to tow a 6500# trailer package on occasion and had this ridiculous idea that this combo may work better than the single 650 that's currently on it. It definitely feels under carb'ed right now. Quick specs: .030 over flat tops; ported 906's high flow iron manifolds; 2 1/2" dual exhaust with H-pipe; Dvorak custom "tow truck" cam.
I've never owned this type of induction so let's here from some experienced gurus. Feel free to call me an idiot for even thinking of using this combo to tow with.

I don't believe you have enough cam for the fuel this will deliver.

I must've been drunk or something. Any other positive experiences using this set-up?

For starters this is a divided plenum dual plane intake, which is a very friendly design for the street and should work very well with the right carbs and cam. It maybe a little insane for towing but what the heck if it works well. This is basically a performer intake so it will work best with a cam that has a matched RPM range. Maybe 1500 - 5500? (I have no idea what the Dvorak cam is but sounds like the "tow truck cam" will be fine). I'd also look for some of the early "small" 400 CFM AFB's and set them up with progressive linkage. Think of it as a street HEMI setup for a wedge.

Thanks for making me feel a bit less like a dork. I can't remember the grind of the "tow truck cam" but Dvorak was super excited about it's potential for my big-*** wagon towing an even bigger package. Like I said, super fluid progressive linkage makes me think that it should be real user friendly on the street. Towing with it was just a weird thought I had. I'm already over it.

Hey, 69 Runner, I seem to remember a certain Satellite wagon with a six pack used for towing built by, ah, YOU!

Hopefully that cam doesn't require a lot of compression. 9.0:1 should be plenty and hopefully the cam is designed around that or less. A little detonation margin for the tow vehicle is a good idea. I have a 71 F250 with a 390 and I was thinking about putting my 406 tri power setup on it - just for grins

Yes that was the case. I DID build a 68 Satellite 9 passenger wagon (with luggage rack) with a 440+6 and I did use it for towing. But it also had a 2000 stall converter and 3.55 gears

I had the same set up on my 440;.509 cam;10:1 CR;3500 stall;4:10's and headers. I could never really get the 600's tuned right. I always thought the 500's would be good but the 400's would be great.

On another note I think your set up IS under carbed. A 750 or 800 cfm carb would be a helpful upgrade and cost less

The big problem is getting the 400 cfm Carters. There very hard to find and normally cost alot since there mostly a restorers thing for early Corvettes or Fury's. I think Buick *Might* have also used a dual quad set up, but I know they did use Carter carbs early on.

A pair of 390 Holleys or 500 cfm Carters will work real well. The use of the 600's is a do-able thing, just jet them correctly. Nice set up by the way. I wish I could get one for my 400. LOL And no, I'n not going to use Stage VI aluminum heads in order to do it.

I will definitely be upgrading the carb on my tow rig but this combo is now slated for a slightly more bad-*** 440 that will get test muled in my 330. For now I'll work with what I've got (two 600's) and try to make them perform. I appreciate the input from guys who have run this package.

i'm using carter 600's...still tuning on it a little..got my new best et with the dual 4's a couple of weeks ago..i love this intake/carb combo..it looks great and performs pretty good too...

Right on Al, that's a tight looking package. Are those custom valve covers or 440 source? Kind of the e.t.'s I will be after before I can afford a big inch stroker.

My 2 cents, if you HAVE to multi-carb it, would be on a 6 pak on this one. The ability to adjust the the flow based on vacuum demand would sound like a easier way to go on a dual purpose car.

I think the OP point here was that he had an opportunity to pick up the dual quad set up an a good price. He really wasn't asking for opinions on other type induction systems.

Thanks for the kind words...the valve covers are e-bay specials..the brand name is pro-comp..i got lucky...i found this set with a $99 buy it now...usually they run around $119.
