Was wondering if anyone can tell me why the lug threads are different on my GTX. One side they are regular thread and on the other side they are reverse thread. I'm hoping I'm asking this question the right way. I broke one of them so if anyone can direct me to the right place that would be awesome. I need one for the left side.

mopars where left side left hand and right side right hand

Mine are still that way, allot of people switch them to all RH.
I don't think anyone knows why they did that except the engineer with a alcohol/drug problem that thought it up.
Napa has them.

I believe it had some thing to do with wheel direction and rotating when torqued :eusa_think: mopar , Studebaker ,and Internation where the ones that had used this mopar quit sometime after 1972 I think

I think the initial idea was that with the direction of wheel rotation, a loose nut would be less likely to spin all the way off. Knock-off hubs were usually left handed on the left side for the same reason.

But, too many people couldn't figure it out, tire shops would snap off studs...and people at home and dealerships.

Some military vehicles are still built that way though, as well as larger trucks.

The engineers and Chrysler were always trying to improve things. They tested and discovered that by using left handed lug nuts on the drivers side the lug nuts would actually tighten upon driving instead of backing off all the way and allowing the wheel to come off.

I changed all of mine to right hand thread. And they don't get loose when I drive it either. Lol . All the auto parts stores should have them. 1/2-20 thread I think. They also come with 3/4 socket head or the larger 13/16 head. The larger one fits the stock wheel so much better! Plus my Cragar wheel nuts are 13/16". Makes the drag strip swap from street tires to slicks so much easier and faster!
