One of my favorite magazines when I was growing up.

MAD Magazine will cease publication later this year, according to reports. Blogger Jedidiah Leland reportedly discovered the news after a MAD editor confessed to the magazine’s doom in a Facebook group, and shortly thereafter, cartoonist Ruben Bolling seemed to confirm the report on Twitter. Of course, Bolling is not a MAD cartoonist (although he did have work published in it in 2005), so he may have been simply responding to the growing volume of responses to the Leland report.

I guess it would be considered a conflict of interest having Alfred E. Newman staring on his own magazine cover and running for the highest office in the land at the same time.

I didn't know it was still going even...

Rest in Peace Mad Magazine (Albert E. Newman)

Oh well. It was funny and a little edgy growing up, the movie and popular-culture satire was great in their goofy way..My mom didn't like it...(maybe that was part of the allure!) Don't know what it's been like for the last 35 years but I imagine they've learned to go for the low-hanging (political) fruit, like most. With so many choices and outlets now I'm surprised they lasted this long..

Still remember the lecture given by the nun in grade school, catching one of us with a copy and then explaining to the class how the publication was sinful (sure was funny though).

Alfred E Neuman used to say "what me worry" well the publication is now going into the dustbin of history. Its been around since at least the early 1970s as far as i know.

The first issue was printed in Oct-Nov 1952.
The first 23 issues were standard 'comic book' size, format and coloring.
The black and white magazine format started in 1955 with issue 24.
Circulation peaked in 1974 at about 2.1 million copies.

My copies of 1-5

I guess with that long of a publication run, ole Alfred E Neuman has nothing to worry about. Maybe its retirement time.

I wonder how long George Trosley is going to keep going with Krass & Bernie. I am more like Bernie since i am an autobody guy.
