Were the Magnum 500's a factory option or were they an aftermarket option in 1969 Coronet R/T? I have a set that I removed on my Coronet as they were rusted and would like to sell. A friend is betting me that the 500's were only factory for Mustangs,
Thanks for settling the bet
Mark

I hope your friend bet you a lot of money, because he is WRONG! These wheels were a factory option (code W21) and were called "Chrome stamped Road Wheels". They were not available on Hemi cars though. Both my R/T and my Super Bee came from the factory with the W21 Road Wheels.

The term "Magnum 500's" that is used so commonly today to refer to these wheels is actually the Ford name for the wheels, I believe. Chrysler used "Road Wheels" to refer to them. I believe the wheels themselves are identical, just the center caps were different between the Ford and Chrysler wheel types.

Hmm, I'm not sure about that. I seem to recall seeing these wheels on both Mopar & Ford cars in '69. But I don't know who actually installed them on their cars first. I don't think they were on any 68 cars ?

there was another thread on this the other week.
someone suggested that they were manufactured for ford and mopar but were only on 69 shelby cars, I know the centre caps are different, and someone also said that there was another difference on how they seat against the drum face.
I like them and have finally found a set of 15's for my bee.

They became available for the `67 model year as all chrome with black in between the spokes and stayed that way for `68. In `69 they were not all chrome and used a trim ring. Not sure of the last year offered, `74 maybe?

So they could be original to the car as the center cap is plain. They have rust spots on the chrome and I may want to sell them,
Thanks for the information,
Mark

If they are all chrome they are not original. All 1969 and up Mopar "Road Wheels" had satin finished spokes and the rest of the rim was black, with a trim ring. They came in one size only 14" X 5.5".

These are 15" and chrome ring and spokes with the black lugnut section. I will sell them as they are not in great shape. Also have a set of 15" 274 Winston tires on the back set of wheels that will go with the Magnum 500's. Time to post them on craigslist,

i have them on my 67 the front ones have a pentastar on them and the back ones have the ford oval on them they look the same but the ford are wider 14 x 7

Mopar never used the 15" version only 14x5.5 (1967-1972) and 14x6 (1973-1975 or 6 I think) and they were called road wheels as said earlier. Also Magnum 500 is the wheel manufacture's term, not Ford's. These wheels were also sold in the aftermarket, starting in the mid 60's, and had a Magnum 500 with two flags in the center cap. Here are replacement inserts for the aftermarket Magnums 500's I recently sold.

Updated phots of the wheels if anyone is interested. My camera was broken for the last few months. Two are in excellent condition, while two have rust spots:
